Production Mines

North West Province Project Area

Namakwa's operations in the North West Province are split into eight areas - seven clusters of farms, referred to as "nodes" for the purposes of consolidation and the Pypklip area, which is geographically separated from the seven nodes.

The North West Province is currently the principal focus of the Namakwa Group's mining operations and contains its five production mines:

(a) Central Area;
(b) South Western Area;
(c) South Mining Area 1;
(d) South East Mining Area 1 and 2; and
(e) London 112HO alluvial mine.

The project area also contains development opportunities within the nodes on which Namakwa's mines are based and future growth prospects on, as yet, undeveloped nodes, including Pypklip.

The acquisition by Namakwa of its mining operations in the North West Province followed 27 years of involvement by Tom Kruger in the purchase of rough diamonds from the area, and all the sites in the North West Province Project Area in which Namakwa retains an interest have previously seen test excavations or full scale mining operations. Such alluvial gravel is principally found in two types, colloquially known as:

  • Rooikoppie gravel, which is found in higher topographic locations in mounts which have gathered alongside ancient waterways; and
  • Vlei gravel, which occurs within valleys and depressions through which ancient waterways have passed.

Central Mining Area (Central Node)

The Central Node is situated across portions of the Koppie Alleen and Ganspan farms and the Diamantfontein, Kameelkuil, Leeuwbosch, Mahempannen, Pienaarsfontein, Graspan and Schoonzicht farms, approximately 37km north of Bloemhof and approximately 30km south-east of Schweizer-Reneke. Electricity is available on site and water for mining operations requires pumping from underground reservoirs using boreholes, which requires government approval. The Directors consider the site to have good infrastructure.

Namakwa's operations in the Central Node comprise mining, prospecting and development opportunities for alluvial diamonds.

South Western Mining Area (South Western Node)

The South Western Node is situated on a portion of the Blesbok, Bosmanfontein, Mooifontein and Avondster farms, approximately 20km north-west of Bloemhof. The site is considered by the Directors to have good infrastructure, although it does not have access to the electricity national grid.

Namakwa's operations in the South Western Node comprise mining and development opportunities for alluvial diamonds.

Southern Mine Area (Southern Node)

The Southern Node is situated on a portion of the Kareepan farm, approximately 15km north of Bloemhof. Namakwa's operations in the Southern Node comprise mining opportunities for alluvial diamonds conducted through the South Area 1 Mine on the Kareepan farm.

South East Mine Area (South Eastern Node)

The mining operation is situated approximately 22km south of Wolmaransstad. Namakwa's operations in the South Eastern Node comprise mining and development opportunities for alluvial diamonds.

London 112HO alluvial mine

The operation consists of 2,121.6 hectares of Portion 64, also known as the Remaining Extent of London 112HO in the Schweizer Reneke District, North West Province of the Republic of South Africa. The Property is located 300 kilometres southwest of Johannesburg, and approximately 200 kilometres northeast of Kimberley, and mines a total indicated and inferred resource of 114,390 carats at an average recovered grade of 0.7 cpht, as confirmed by Venmyn Rand (Pty) Ltd.
