Sorting Rough Diamonds
Each diamond sourced from run of mine material has a potential customer but given the multiple permutations which determine the value of diamonds, it is more complex to classify diamonds into value categories, than is the case with more homogenous minerals and metals. Namakwa Diamonds currently sorts rough diamonds smaller than 4.8 carats into approximately 175 categories, whereas diamonds larger than 4.8 carats are sold individually. The principal skill of the diamantaires of the Sales & Trading Division, evidenced by their track record, is to determine whether a rough diamond should be sold, polished or sorted into parcels of rough and potentially polished diamonds for their particular customer base, with bespoke parcels providing increased margins. This skill provides a key element to the Company’s ability to extract significant value from the diamond industry's value chain.
